Week 1 - Script

Jesus was good friends with a family of two sisters and a brother—Martha, Mary, and Lazarus.

One day when Jesus and His friends were far from Bethany, the town where His three friends lived, they got a message—Lazarus was really, really sick. How do you think his sisters felt? (Pause for kids to draw) His sisters were panicked with worry and sadness.

Jesus said, “This sickness will not end in death. No, it is for God’s glory. God’s Son will receive glory because of it” John 11:4

Jesus’ friends were worried—Jesus was warned to stay away from that town because the religious leaders didn’t like Him. They wanted to kill Jesus! But Jesus knew it was the right time to go. How do you think his disciples felt? (Pause for kids to draw)

A few days later, Jesus told His friends they would go to Bethany to wake Lazarus up. The disciples weren’t sure that going to Bethany was a good idea, they thought that Lazarus would get better because he was sleeping. How do you think his disciples felt? (Pause for kids to draw)

When they arrived in Bethany, Lazarus had been dead for four days! Martha rushed out to meet Jesus, and Mary came out shortly after. They were heartbroken. How do you think his disciples felt? (Pause for kids to draw)

Jesus wept too. They all huddled together and Mary and Martha didn’t feel so lonely. They knew Jesus understood. How do you think Jesus felt? (Pause for kids to draw)

Then Jesus did something totally unexpected! He went to Lazarus’ tomb, prayed, and then told Lazarus to COME OUT! How do you think Mary, Martha, and Jesus felt? (Pause for kids to draw)

And Lazarus DID! He walked out, alive and well. Jesus told Lazarus’ family to take off his grave clothes. How do you think Lazarus felt? (Pause for kids to draw)

Jesus understands when we are sad and when we are happy. Jesus was sad when His friend was gone and happy when Lazarus came back.
